Apply for a building permit or book an inspection
Starting construction prior to obtaining a building permit may result in the following administrative fees being added to your building permit fee.
Part 9 Buildings - $250 minimum, $5,000 maximum. Part 3 Buildings - $1,000 minimum, $25,000 maximum.
Calculation is based on the following percentage of the full permit fee – 25% if footings/foundation commenced, 50% if structural framing commenced, 75% if structural framing complete, 100% if building is complete, 100% if demolition or partial demolition has commenced, any other work requiring issuance of a building permit is based upon the proportion of the work completed.
Please note: On May 26, 2026, the City adopted an Interim Control By-law (By-law 56-2026) for certain lands within the City’s employment areas to facilitate planning for the future of Brantford’s employment areas. Apply for a Building Permit or request a building inspection using our new digital application process. The City of Brantford is pleased to provide a more efficient and convenient new way to expedite the building permit process. The City now uses a cloud-based e-permitting software called Cloudpermit to process all Building Permit Applications. This process will make it much easier for the applicant to track the status of their permit, request an inspection, and more.
With Cloudpermit, you can easily:
- Apply for all types of building permits online, including demolition permits
- Check the status of an application (change of application status or additional information requests will be automatically emailed to the applicant)
- Schedule or cancel inspections
- Check inspection results
- Submit and request changes to an existing permit
- Pay building permit fees online

To begin, you will need to create a Cloudpermit account. Cloudpermit currently supports Firefox, Google, and Safari browsers. Once registered, you can conveniently apply for permits and easily track their progress.
